Gray Mold

Gray Mold

Gray mold, also known as Botrytis cinerea, is a common fungal disease affecting strawberries. It thrives in cool, humid conditions, typically appearing as fuzzy gray patches on the fruit, leaves, and stems. This mold can rapidly spread, leading to significant crop damage if left unchecked. It often develops on ripe or overripe fruit, especially in crowded or poorly ventilated conditions. Control measures include proper spacing of plants, good air circulation, and timely removal of infected plant material. Fungicides may also be used preventatively, but resistant strains can develop over time, necessitating integrated pest management strategies for long-term control.
